Mailed in my marriage license and certificate, along with my drivers license in order to change my last name. I received the marriage documents back in a timely manner, as well as my new social security card, but I never received my drivers license back. I called and they told me that they never received my drivers license. Im positive I included it in the envelope, and I had even written a letter that listed the documents enclosed in the envelope. They assured me that their process was secure and that they only have on file that the marriage documents were sent to the office. So now Ill have to pay for a replacement license because they lost it and didnt admit to it. If you have the opportunity, wait until after COVID and make an in-person appointment so you have control over what documents they have!
Got off the phone with a guy saying to wait for the call to make an appointment 3 months ago so I decided to show up at the office and talked to the security guard and he gave me a number to call to make an appointment which I did and later today I got a call and made an appointment today. DO NOT CALL THEM TO ASK FOR AN APPOINTMENT. DRIVE STRIGHT TO THE OFFICE AND ASK THE SECURITY. THE SECURITY WILL ACTUALLY HELP YOU.
Terrible service!! everyone is rude even if youre being understanding and cooperating. They have no customer service training. I understand that at this time things may be hard, but yall dont have to waste peoples time. I dont have enough fingers to count how many times theyve hung up on me ...and all i was doing is translating. If I could give them zero stars i would.
The level of professionalism from this office deplorable. Never have we been treated so inhumanly. The staff treats people like nuisances. This is bureaucracy at its worst. I asked for how long a Medicare part B application would take to process and was literally told “I can’t possibly tell you that because I have to handle it first” I’m not sure what that means? Should I Have phrased my quest differently? as in.. How long is it going to take you to handle it? I’m at loss on how to deal with this office and this situation since they are closed which they reminded me ten times about and the ball just seems to be in the hands of some ego that can care less about the public he serves.
Tried to get my newly adopted sons social security changed over, mailed in everything they asked of me, they denied it and will not send my wifes SS card back. They say i have to fill out a form with her ID, so if we mail that in she is a week without a drivers licence, how is she suppose to drive? They need to open back up to serve the people and get things done!!! If i could give 0 stars i would.Update: Called back, spoke with Kat and got it all worked out. If you call ask to speak to her, the others dont seem to want to help you at all. So if a supervisor sees this give Kat a raise.
Had to follow up today on a similar matter and spoke to a Miss Williams. Let me say this, she was very knowledgeable professional, and courteous. She took the time to discharge her duties efficiently with no nonsense and was a perfect example of what Public Service is about and she should be commended. Thank you again, Miss Williams!
My first time at the SSA office, in Lakeland,Fl. We stood in line for about 30 minutes minute, we were there early, when it began to rain they opened the doors and we were allowed in the lobby. Quickly the workers took our names and we were seated with our caseworkers my concern was answered with kindness and respect. My Journey was quick and all my questions answered fairly and happily by the caseworker. Many people complain about their experience, could it be their own attitude and not the caseworker? Respect to be respected. These people are only doing their jobs, theyre not our slaves to scream and yell at!!!!!
After my familys experience seeing all the reviews citing lost documents and paperwork does not surprise me. In our case this office lost a critical piece of documentation that fundamentally changed a benefits decision against us. Due to Covid if you have to send documents by mail please push for an in person appointment dont give this office the chance to ruin your familys life.
We must send our ACTUAL Drivers License THROUGH THE MAIL (we all know how safe that is...) and hope to get it back (dont forget to send a sase) which they did NOT tell me...If it gets *lost* we have to make an appointment at dmv( that takes about 4 weeks) to get a new DL/ID just to get a duplicate social security card...WOW
I was there and the whole place stunk so bad! I waited there past 2 hrs of my appointment time. I had to go to work, and when I finally said something they claimed my name didnt show up on the board. I checked in EXACTLY how the security officer told me. oh and speaking of him, he was a total douche. treated me like trash little does he know, without clients, he doesnt have a job. rude people. someone just called from that office PAST their closing time in regards to my son and I cant even get through them. Seriously?!
When I went inside I only waited about 45 minutes to be seen and I thought I got what I needed handled so I left a happy camper.I went in because my mother died and to get my sisters benefits (because she’s a minor) form of deposit changed to my bank account. My mother died in September and we are two weeks away from November and I have yet to receive anything. I went to the office October 4, they send a letter October 12 with my deceased mother’s name still as the parent instead of mine.I’m guessing the lady didn’t do something properly but I cannot even call and ask because it always says there are too many callers, try again later. It’s also impossible for me to keep going into the office for their mistakes. I work during the Social security’s business hours and have already taken a half day once, so this is frustrating!
Tried to call about if my SS# had been compromised. Had to listen to 10 min useless infomercial before being told it was a 45 minute wait to speak to someone. No option to leave a call back #. Their communication system is obviously designed not to provide assistance, but to make you give up and go away.
I have been dealing with this office since March 2018, I have not always had the best results, from my point of view. Today all was made right!! Im sorry for all of the people who have had a bad experience!!For the general population at the Lakeland office, hang in there.. Ms. Kat in that office was beyond caring, educated, and extremely helpful to my case. I am a Human Being and today was the first time I feel I was treated as such.Thank you Ms. Kat, and if the SSA could have just a few other employees like her there would be a lot more positive reviews.5 Stars for Ms. Kat *****
Arrived shortly after 9 and was in and out in about 45 minutes. The agents were polite, helpful, friendly and answered any questions that were posed. I recommend you have all the paperwork you need for your specific transaction ready (document requirements listed on SS website) and get there early as I understand appointments are no longer available.
I was pretty nervous about going to SS office in Lakeland, Fla today. The reviews were less than 3 stars and I was not looking forward to sitting there all day. I was also not a big fan of the comments of it smelling like body odor. Well I arrived at 8:15 am 45 mins before it opened. I was 21 people deep in line. They opened the doors about 10 mins early to take in people that had appts. Then promptly began allowing the rest of us in one at a time very clam and orderly. The Security guard addressed the crowed to explain a few rules and addressed how you would get your number and be called. He did a great job inside and outside the building. Bravo.... Next there were 2 ladies helping people get their numbers and get seated inside. This was very well organized they asked what I was here for so they could get me on the correct list. Everyone was nice and helpful..You can not stand in the walkways (fire code) and the place did not smell bad. The AC was set low the temp was very comfortable. Much different than the reviews from a few years earlier. I was there for a simple name change and was driving way at 9:32am with my name change complete. I can see how this can be a stressful thing for anyone needing to be there. People just chill and relax listen to what they tell you and follow the rules.
Advice: see if you can use the internet before you come. This should be your last option!Either come the moment it opens or plan to spend 2 to 3 hours here. At 12pm all but one window is open because they go on lunch. You will hate your very existence after your visit. When you come in use the computer to check in to the right opposite too the front desk. It will give you a number. They call numbers all over the map it will not give you an idea where you are in line. The employees will be rude to you they hate themselves and you so it will happen. Also do not bring drinks. When you get your number feel free to wait in your car for a bit this will save you from lossing your mind from seeing the employees no sense of urgency, rudeness and speed of service.Best of luck, you will need it in this house of pain.

I’ve sent in my information and proper paperwork twice now to this office. Not only have they denied me both times to get my name changed now they have lost my DL and destroyed the social I did have. Thank guys for absolutely nothing.
Wait time wasnt bad, oh just a minute, that was the first time they called our number. Went to window told them we just need to leave proofs (birth certificate and ID)they told us to have a seat and they would call by name. Seriously, two hours and we are still waiting for them to call our friends name. This is awful.
I went to the Social Security office on December 2, 2016. Before I went there I took time and I read the reviews and I was nervous thinking about going to this office that have so many negative reviews. When i arrived 25 people or more were already waiting but they were there for differents reasons. The staff were working and calling names all the time, they were very professional . I didnt see unhappy staff. The security gurd wasnt friendly but was courteous and he was doing his job. He was very professional and I can tell that he has works ethics. ( this keep him away from trouble and misunderstanding with females) They help me in a kind and courteous manners. My conclusion is that some people goes there for some benefits and thats fine but there some rules and regulations that this office need to fallow. The staffs job is to help you with the.paper work for Social Security or for disability but the money is not control by them. I understand that we can not confuse been honest with beeN rude but based on my observations The Social Security office in Lakeland are doing a great job. I went there to get a new Social Security card and I didnt have no problems. Thank you!!!
This office needs to be reported to someone in higher office... They have LOST (never received if you ask them) every piece of mail I have ever sent to them... I sent in a payment on 6/30/17 because they dont take payments any other way than check or money order mailed in or physically brought in (like anyone has the time to site for over 2 hours to hand in a payment) and as of 7/17/17 it has STILL not cleared my bank. When I called to speak to someone about this I was put on hold for 18 min just to be told that the reps were busy and to call back later... This is unacceptable considering we jump through hoops for Social Security...
Waiting time is over two hours. For appointments made you still have to wait in line and take a number to save your spot. Security guard is unprofessional and comes off rude approaching anyone. Im currently still waiting after 2 hours. Hopefully the facility gets upgraded to be a bigger one with more staff in the near future. Im starving.
After over a 2 hour wait I still sit with my elderly mother just trying to change her checking account number. Really, how incredibly hard can this be?? These people are so extremely slow, the security officer is rude and is an overall ass, and they only work from 9am to 4pm, who has those hours??? Oh yeah, and they close at noon on Wednesday, incredible!! This is so ridiculous!!
I sent in an application for a name change along with a copy of ID, birth certificate, and marriage license. It has been two weeks and the only things I have got back is the new social security card and my marriage license back. Today, I called and they said that I never sent in the copy of ID or my birth certificate when I know I did because that’s the only way you can get the name changed on the SS card.
I have talked with several people here. They do the best they can. They actually try to answer questions. Many thanks to Lakeland office. But, After 9 months the Chicago office still cant get the amount right and the info right. What about the back pay I havent recieved? and under paid months I havent recieved either? Nearly every month I have to call to get a check issued. It is our lives and money they are messing up with.
Definitely time to move this administration office to a new, larger premises. Extremely unnecessary, long wait times, with a poorly thought out waiting area, with not enough room for wheelchairs to get around. The lady that dealt with our enquiry was very nice though.
I found out that the Lakeland office has stopped my benefits without even notifying me. Then they are rude and dismissive and act as if they did nothing wrong. I wish the online site was better it fails in so many small ways. There is no records of correspondence or update on a case that they failed to report. There needs to be a reconstruction of the whole system.
4 hours at this place with an elderly person and got nothing done. Valencia and all the people working at this office are rude and treated us like garbage. Its elderly abuse if you ask me. Valencia is not patient or helpful, she looks miserable and did not want to explain anything. The place stunk like armpit.Felt discriminated against for speaking Spanish.
Waited 2 1/2 hours to finally be seen for disability paperwork the lady at the desk offered no help and said I can fill out the paperwork in the lobby or outside and then comeback if she was at lunch I would have to wait for her to return we need to diversify this office too many hispanics working there only helping out their own kind!
Getting a replacement card took 3 hours ! Only 2 windows open to do replacement card but at 3:15 they opened every window so they could close at 4 and go home ! This place is a joke all the employees are rude to people and the Security Guard needs to go ! Making elderly people with oxygen wait outside in the sun with no seating should be a crime !
Im in the middle of a disability claim and the mam I spoke with was unable to tell me what was going on ??? Im very disturbed by this social security place and believe someone needs to look into the employees of this place, because the man I spoke with was very unprofessional and had no people skills at all , I was rushed off the phone after not getting any answers to any of my questions
The citizen who serves as security at the door (public servant) Latino, a person who has very bad service to answer, I thought he did not have a good day the first time, but today I reiterate that he did not... It is the attitude he has on a daily basis.. ..in terms of customer service, Miss K. I never knew her name, but her box is #17. She is the only person that I see that helps you with everything you need. She is very helpful and seeks to help you with whatever you need. at your fingertips.
