Showing up for our Renewable Future 🌿 (2024)

✋🌍Remember, five years ago in 2019, we celebrated the passage of groundbreaking climate legislation, the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act (CLCPA), which activated the Climate Action Council to provide a clear roadmap for change.

☝️😵‍💫Remember one year ago, in 2023, compromised politicians like New York Governor Kathy Hochul aimed to undermine that progress by aligning with the fossil fuel industry's obstructionism and dialing back our climate law.

☝️🌍🥳And then remember our powerful and unified response that exposed Hochul’s shameful attempt, and saved our climate law? And that same year, we doubled down and passed another trailblazing climate law, the Build Public Renewables Act.

🤯Now, in 2024, Governor Hochul has again sabotaged climate action. Our Public Power coalition perfectly summarized her negligent and undemocratic history and provided an action link for our steps forward.

Governor Hochul, your time is up. A Sane Energy future entails the power of the people to come together and create positive change.

Showing up for our Renewable Future 🌿 (2)

Background: Ugandan and Tanzanian activists are facing increased harassment, intimidation, and arrest for defending their communities and protecting our planet from this deadly enterprise that will produce 34 million tons of carbon emissions every year, displace an estimated 100,000 people, and put the water source and ecosystems of 40 million people at grave risk. EACOP will be a carbon bomb on our overheated planet.

Save the Date! September 24 - Rally at NYPA for Public Renewables!

Showing up for our Renewable Future 🌿 (5)

🌍 Five years ago, NY passed groundbreaking climate legislation to shift to 70% renewable energy by 2030. In 2023, the Build Public Renewables Act empowered the New York Power Authority (NYPA) to make it happen. But Governor Hochul is holding back progress to protect fossil fuel interests, even admitting NY won't meet its goal.

Join us on September 24th at the NYPA headquarters in White Plains to demand action! We need 15 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030–enough to power 12 million homes. Let's make sure Hochul hears us loud and clear! 📢

FAQs

What does renewable energy promise for the future? ›

Taking both environmental and economic cost, solar energy works cheaper than fossil fuel resources. Once we master techniques to harness solar energy, it can be a vital source of power on all planets. Solar energy could be a wonderful source of power generation for future.

What is the renewable energy goal for 2050? ›

By 2050, almost 90% of electricity generation comes from renewable sources, with wind and solar PV together accounting for nearly 70%. Most of the remainder comes from nuclear. energy supply that will be fully decarbonised by 2050, such as electricity or district heat.

Can renewables replace fossil fuels? ›

Renewables can effectively replace fossil fuels, creating crucial environmental, social and economic benefits. Global dependence on oil, natural gas and coal–and the damage this dependence inflicts–is well documented.

Can renewable energy save the world in the future? ›

By using Non-renewable energy source like coal, petroleum, fossil fuels etc., will run out after the usage. This may lead to a serious problem for our future generation. By using renewable energy resources, We can reduce requirement of non-renewable energy resources, by this our future generations will be saved.

What is the main goal of renewable energy? ›

Generating energy that produces no greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuels and reduces some types of air pollution. Diversifying energy supply and reducing dependence on imported fuels. Creating economic development and jobs in manufacturing, installation, and more.

What is renewable future? ›

Renewable energy is energy produced from Earth's natural resources, those that can be replenished faster than they are consumed. Common examples include solar power, hydropower and wind power. Shifting to these renewable energy sources is key to the fight against climate change.

Why shouldn't we switch to renewable energy? ›

- Requires space: Renewable energy requires the use of significant amounts of land. Wind turbines must be spaced out evenly across farms, which means they cannot be tucked into small spaces. The same goes for solar plants; they take up far more space than traditional power plants and are not as efficient.

Is 100 percent renewable energy possible? ›

Feasibility. No uniform definition for 100% renewable energy systems has been adopted across the published literature. Recent studies show that a global transition to 100% renewable energy across all sectors – power, heat, transport and desalination well before 2050 is feasible.

What would happen if everyone switched to renewable energy? ›

Some of the most likely results from this transition would include the following: Cleaner air and water: With the elimination of fossil fuels, there would be a significant reduction in air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions, leading to improved public health and a cleaner environment.

Why are fossil fuels bad? ›

Producing and burning fossil fuels creates air pollution that harms our health and generates toxic emissions that drive climate change. From the electricity that lights our homes to the cars we drive to work, modern life was built on fossil fuels like coal, oil and natural gas.

What is the best renewable energy source? ›

In short, wind energy offers the most economical, environmental, and logistical benefits of any energy source. Look to Inspire to learn more about the benefits of renewable energy.

What are the future predictions for renewable energy? ›

Renewable energy in the future is predicted that by 2024, solar capacity in the world will grow by 600 gigawatts (GW), almost double the installed total electricity capacity of Japan. Overall, renewable electricity is predicted to grow by 1 200 GW by 2024, the equivalent of the total electricity capacity of the US.

What are the renewable goals for 2030? ›

To reach the 2030 goal agreed last year, it will require reaching at least 11,000 GW. World governments agreed to triple renewable energy generation capacity by 2030 and move away from fossil fuels at the COP28 U.N. climate conference in Dubai last December.

What renewable energy source is more promising? ›

Among the most promising sources of renewable energy for the future are our seas and oceans, with their immense potential: the most obvious way to produce electricity is to use the energy generated by the movement of the waves, but another way is to harness the power of the tides, with the benefit that these can be ...
